Career Tech Kids Day is BACK by popular demand!!

We can't wait for you to join us on Saturday, November 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., when CTKD 2024 returns to campus!

Designed for children in grades K - 8, CTKD is a hands-on, fun-filled day that lets your student choose from various career exploration-themed sessions.

Your child will rotate through three (3) sessions with planned group activities in between sessions!

Attendees will also enjoy lunch after their sessions and go home with a commemorative t-shirt!

Area agencies will also be on-hand with children's outreach and activities!

Session Descriptions

Archaeologists in Training
Have you ever wanted to be an archaeologist like Indiana Jones? Kids will participate in a mock excavation, practice writing their names in Egyptian hieroglyphics, examine artifacts, and learn about ancient civilizations. (grades K - 8)

Let It Glow
Discover the magic of science in this fun, hands-on session where kids will make tonic water glow using a blacklight! Each participant will get to create their glowing masterpiece and leave with a blacklight keychain to keep the fun going at home. (grades)

For The Birds
Calling all nature lovers! In this session, kids will assemble and decorate their own wooden birdhouses, learning how to attract birds to their yards. It’s a creative and fun way to support local wildlife, and each birdhouse can be taken home to enjoy. (grades 3 -6)

Terrarium Mini Garden
Create your own tiny world in a bottle! Kids will design and plant their very own mini terrarium using an empty water bottle or container. This hands-on project teaches the basics of plant care and offers a fun way to bring nature indoors. (grades)

Build a Derby Car
Get ready to race! In this session, kids will build and customize their own derby cars, adding personal flair with decorations. Once the cars are built, participants can take them home as a fun keepsake of their day.

If you would like to race your car, please select this as session 1 or 2 and "Going to the Races" as 2 or 3. Cars built during session three won't have the ability to race. (grades 2 - 8)

Going to the Races!
Ready, set, race! In this session, kids will put the derby cars they built in a previous session to the test on the race track. They'll learn about speed, momentum, and friendly competition as they watch their creations zoom across the finish line. (grades 2 - 8)

America's Next Top Stylist
Calling all future stylists! In this session, kids will step into the shoes of a professional stylist, learning techniques to create the latest looks. From hairstyling to accessorizing, participants will unleash their creativity and explore the world of beauty and fashion. (grades K-8)

Dream Big, Read Smart
Discover how reading opens the door to exciting careers! In this session, young readers will explore stories that connect literacy with real-world careers, sparking their imaginations and encouraging big dreams for the future. Participants will leave with a certificate for learning about their dream job and the importance of reading in every career! (grades K-6)

Bigfoot's Buddies
Learn to be like Bigfoot and leave no trace! In this session, kids will explore the great outdoors while discovering the importance of protecting nature. They'll learn fun ways to minimize their environmental impact while enjoying nature adventures. (grades K-6)

Operation
Dive into the world of healthcare with this life-sized version of the classic game! In this session, kids will explore the basics of the medical field, practicing their skills as they “operate” and learn about different parts of the human body. (grades K-8)

Forensic Force
Step into the shoes of a crime scene investigator! In this thrilling session, kids will work with students from Law and Public Safety to solve a mystery using forensic science techniques like fingerprinting and evidence collection. (grades)

Growing Up Wild
Perfect for your littlest learners, our early childhood students will engage children in nature- based activities. Young investigators will build their own beaver dam in our STEM Center, investigate amphibians in the sensory center, build their own bird nest and explore our nature path in our physical development centers. They will also make and take their own bird seed in our Math center, and explore native Ohio wildlife artifacts in our Science center. (grades K-4)

Adopt - A - Puppy
Learn what it takes to be a responsible pet owner! In this session, kids will discover the important factors to consider before adopting a pet. They’ll have fun learning about puppy care, responsibility, and the joys of having a furry friend. Each attendee will go home with their own "adopted" puppy, complete with adoption papers!....(stuffed, of course!)(grades K - 6)

Machining & Motors
Step into the exciting world of machining and motors! In this hands-on session, kids will explore the basics of mechanical engineering, learning how machines work and what it takes to keep them running smoothly. (grades 2 - 8)
